Injured flamingo rescued from Palghar, treated in Mumbai

An injured adult lesser flamingo was rescued from the Vikramgad taluka of Palghar district by the forest department on Tuesday. The forest officials brought it to the Thane SPCA.

MUMBAI: An injured adult lesser flamingo was rescued from the Vikramgad taluka of Palghar district in Maharashtra by the forest department on Tuesday. The forest officials brought it to the Thane SPCA.
It was later taken to avian expert Dr. Rina Dev's clinic in Bandra by Pawan Sharma, honorary wildife warden of Thane with the forest department.

“The bird was severely dehydrated and weak; it has injuries on both wings and has probably been in captivity for a few days,” said Dr Dev who administered first aid dressing, intravenous saline, antibiotics and painkillers to the bird. Compared to previous cases, this bird has a good chance of recovery, said Sharma. “We hope it recovers soon and we are able to release it in the wild.”
